More inspiring than any trainer or thigh gap Insta snap, my all time favourite workout partner is music. It can keep you going when you don’t know if your legs can make it one more step, or it can push you to complete just one more set.
I have a playlist filled with some embarrassing favourites like One Direction, Beyonce and Taylor Swift (I mean come on – Shake It Off is perhaps the best workout song ever). But hiding underneath all the teen pop is another of my solid favourites. Ellie Goulding. Pushing through the burn of a long run whilst listening to ‘Burn’ on repeat always keeps me going just that little bit further.
Ellie has been a big ambassador for running throughout her career (having already mastered no less that five half-marathons), but makes sure to promote a healthy outlook and a balanced life too, saying ”I think having a yin and yang with exercise is the important thing for me. I love to do high-intensity training, but I also love to take it easy”. Because of this she is fast becoming a role model for the sifting perceptions of beauty; promoting being strong not skinny. “I feel proud to be an ambassador for women who realise that being fit is better than being skinny,” says Ellie, “I still think there’s a little bit of work to do with promoting fit, not thin. But it’s getting there.”.
Oh, and she has some seriously bangin’ abs too.
