I once had this boyfriend, and he had a little sister (shocking). I remember thinking we would totes become friends forever and share clothes, eat frozen yoghurt and it would be amazing. Being an only child, that’s exactly what I thought a little sister was like. But then I got dumped. (Plus, to be honest, I got the vibe that his little sister totally hated me). I remember walking into her bedroom once (before the break up obviously) and seeing floor to ceiling posters of celebrities. I was a combination of slightly weirded out, and in complete awe of the dedication this girl had.

You recall those days right? When the only way to get a visual hit of celeb-dom was from the posters in your {insert preteen mag of your choosing here}. I used to read Mizz, and I was definitely more of a ‘cute kittens in fluffy hats’ gal than movie stars pouting. (Now a days though, I couldn’t possibly pick between the two. Maybe a shot of the Gosling holding a kitten in a hat would be best? Yes, yes I think so.)

Well, if I had my way I think my house would somewhat resemble that ex-little sisters bedroom right now. (Unfortunately I don’t have my way, and the boys patients runs out at my rather elaborate shoe collection). But instead of One Direction staring back at you, if you walked into my house you would see a field of fashion icons, fabric swatches and mouthwatering food photography. Luckily the world has evolved, and people are saving on blue tack by storing these images on their computers or on Pinterest.

I don’t intently hunt for certain people when I get lost in a pool of internet-ness, but I tend to circle back to a similar handful of people by complete accident. One of which, on almost all my (mental) best dressed lists is Olivia Palermo. I think it helps that I’ve never seen The City* (the reality television show she became known for). She always seems to master the play of high fashion, flash-in-the-pan trends and incredible classics, so beautifully. She makes daring choices, but downplays them with solid foundations – so she never looks like a fashion victim.

Well, this little fashion babe just got hitched ladies and gents. But, do you know what she wore?! One of the fashion worlds most intensely watched bride-to-be‘s wore a sweater and shorts!!!! I am completely dumbfounded.

I’m on the fence about it. There is no denying she looks gorgeous. There is ALSO no denying that the Carolina Herrera combo is fabulous. But, there was a part of me that wanted something way more elaborate. With the magical mix of an infamous fashionista and her male model of a fiancé, plus having every fashion designer IN THE WORLD casually fawning over you, you’d have though it would result in something pretty spectacular. Something a little less like the opening sequence of Sex And The City.

Having said that however, Olivia’s been daring (how many brides opt for short shorts), but downplayed it with solid foundations (aka the fabric and colour choices). So I guess, she’s being true to herself, and her style. You can’t really ask any more from someone on their big day. Can you?

And she looks bloody happy.

(Who wouldn’t be if they were marrying that guy?!)

*Is it just me, or do you find that when you actually hear someone speak, or watch them in a show, suddenly something is lost. They seem less amazing. They loose their shine? I don’t know why. It’s like, when I first heard Kate Middleton actually speak I was SO disappointed. She sounded all posh and up tight. I was kind of hoping that her “princess of the people” persona would be followed up by some cockney slang or something.

I love her style and I love that she did something different for her wedding. I think it shows that she doesn’t care what anyone else thinks, she’s going to do her own thing.

So true!! She does look completely gorgeous. She could have worn ANYTHING and made it super fashionable.

I’m not sure how I feel about her choice of outfit. I mean, she does look different and daring, but in my opinion, she could have looked better for her special day. I’m not too crazy about the top and her hairdo, I guess. But then, whatever floats her boat 🙂 And it’s a good thing you didn’t see the show, she wasn’t particularly nice on it 😉 xoxo

Haha! I know what you mean about the hairdo. A Ponytail doesn’t seem very wedding appropriate.

I think it looks very sweet but not as special as you might want for a wedding. I would wear this combo out. Maybe a low back on the sweater or some jewellery would have made this a bit more glamourous.

I think you are right, it needed a bit a bling to make it special!
